The University of Ghana Student Representative Council (SRC) has made a donation to the inhabitants of Agorbledokui, a village in the Volta Region of Ghana.
This forms part of the ongoing 2019 SRC week celebration programs to help the needy through donations to some societies.
The items donated include bags of rice, cooking oil, toiletries and cartons of drink.
General Secretary of the UGSRC Cornelia Kafui Dzordzormey who spoke to UniversNews on the sidelines of the donation exercise highlighted that, over the years most donations by the student groups have mostly been Accra-based leaving behind people in the remote communities.
This she said, coupled with the tragic incident of flooding in the Agorbledokui and Sakome areas in the Keta Municipality was the reason for which the SRC decided to donate to the communities.
“We are in the Volta Region as part of the SRC week celebration to donate to the people of this community who have been hit with a destruction due to flood. We realized that most of the time donations are made in Accra only so this time we have decided to move outside Accra and that is why we are here in the Volta Region”, she said.
Receiving the items, Assembly Member for the Agobledoku electoral area, Mr. Joseph Kpata, expressed gratitude to the SRC for the donation.
He noted that the activity was timely as residents of the area continue to count their loses following the loss of properties to flooding.
Former Municipal Chief Executive of the Keta Municipality, Sylvester Tornyava, who was also present at the donation, called for government support for the residents.
